MAKE POLLUTERS PAY
Oil, gas, and coal companies have a terrible track record in Africa. While we support energy development on the continent, that doesn't mean it has to be polluting. DEMAND THAT INDUSTRY pay for its historical damages and offer renewable energy solutions instead!
SAVE JULIANA
The biggest trial on climate is yet to go to trial, but could if we can just overcome one more hurdle: the U.S. Department of Justice. GET LOUD for Youth v. Gov by calling on your social channels to take action!
CLEANING OUT THE CLOSET
Did you know that the global fashion industry spews out more carbon pollution than France, Germany and the U.K. combined? The Fashion Act, if passed in industry hubs like New York, would put apparel companies on the hook for their pollution. SUPPORT THIS IMPORTANT REFORM today!
CLIMATE CAREER KICKOFF
There are more ways to work in climate than just being a scientist. MARK YOUR CALENDARS for this free week of virtual events with founders, investors and experts March 25-29th.
DECONGESTANT
It’s sometimes easier just to walk in Manhattan. Too many cars in tight streets of NY causes billions of dollars in wasted fuel and poor health. SHOW YOUR SUPPORT for the MTA’s new plan for congestion pricing.
Do you have a big climate idea that is keeping you up at night? Apply for this fellowship program that wants to help you take your idea and make it a reality because climate solutions simply cannot wait.
PLANET FORWARD
Learn from experts, advocates, storytellers and students at this year's Planet Forward Summit. Attend this event to network with and learn from others in the climate space. (Planet Forward)

Climate science can be overwhelming. Here’s your easy-to-share highlight reel.
NO RAIN CHECKS

When you think of the Arctic, do you imagine rain or snow? Rain storms are becoming more frequent creating a myriad of problems throughout the region, from avalanches to changes in water quality.

SIGNAL FIRES

Scientists fear this year’s early record of fires in the Amazon could signal a broader crisis. As decades of deforestation and an ongoing drought turn the rainforest to kindling, read to see what these fire patterns mean for ecosystems and communities.

FLARE-UP

That asthma attack might not be from pollen but from oil and gas venting. A new study shows that this pollution has resulted in $7.4 billion in health damages and more than 700 premature deaths.

SIMULATING SUSTAINABILITY

As U.S. energy demand continues to surge, an interesting solution is being proposed. It’s called a “virtual power plant” and it could change the way we think about the grid. See the high tech solution here.

SOUND WAVES

Music is healing, even to coral reefs. A new Caribbean study shows that coral larvae are more likely to settle on degraded reefs bathed in marine soundscapes. Read more on how this can ensure their survival.

WELL, WELL, WELL

There are over 14,000 inactive oil and gas wells in the Gulf of Mexico, risking pollution leaks. So when a fossil fuel project is over, it can still pollute forever.

METHANE MESS

Methane is notoriously harmful and this study shows that the amount of methane leaked in the U.S. was three times greater than the government had previously reported. How can these leaks be reined in?

UNBELI-EV-ABLE!

The results are in: EV’s are in fact cleaner than fossil fuels. While production is carbon intensive, the break even point occurs just after about 41,000 kilometers, or about 2 years of driving in the US.

Here’s what it looks like when people show up, voices ring loud and leaders act for the sake of the planet.
LAND BACK

Imagine the people that manage land… as the people who originally managed that land! California’s Yurok Tribe, which had 90% of its territory taken in the Gold Rush 1800s, will now be managing 125 acres leading to the Redwood national and state parks.

RESILIENCE FUNDS

The Biden Administration announces $120 million worth of funding to 146 tribal climate resilience projects making it the largest single award of its kind in the history of the Bureau of Indian Affairs.

URBAN FLOURISH

The new $200 million Bloomberg American Sustainable Cities initiative plans for 25 cities in the United States to get climate-focused teams to remove the burden on communities to choose between competing sustainability priorities.

HOLD THE DESERT

Where’s a mass reforestation project that’s actually working? The African Trees for the Future has succeeded in reforesting an area seven times the size of Manhattan, and in holding back encroaching deserts with vegetation. We could learn from this.

LONG ISLAND SOUND

America’s first commercial off-shore wind farm is now up and running in New York. These turbines will power up to 70,000 homes and eliminate the equivalent of pollution from nearly 60,000 cars.

ECO IFTAR

Muslims around the world may use less plastic as they observe Ramadan this year. Many mosques have taken strides to encourage this greener practice that reconnects with traditional environmental values.

SC SUES SEC

The Sierra Club has joined a list of nearly 20 states that are suing the SEC over their new climate disclosure rule, which would require companies to reveal the risks posed by climate to their business models.

GREEN SHORTCUTS

Point A to Point B might get more sustainable. The U.S Department of Transportation has awarded $3.3 billion to reconnect communities that have been previously divided by highway projects with low-carbon projects.

FUELING THE FIRE

Over 30,000 Palestinians have been killed in Israel’s war on Gaza and many others suffer from destroyed resources. And it’s a crisis of the environment as much as a humanitarian one. How are fossil fuel companies fueling this catastrophe?

A SHOCKING PROBLEM

Something unusual is happening in America. Demand for electricity, which has remained largely flat for two decades, has begun to surge, and it spells trouble for transitioning to clean energy. See the major cause here.

GREENLIGHT POLICIES

Some of the most important environmental policies in the U.S. are made by people elected at the local or state level. Check out the 8 races that could completely alter American climate policy.

LEFT HIGH AND DRY

Extreme heat affects everyone. But in Florida, the hottest state in the country, only one group is legally protected and it’s not outdoor workers.

PLASTAXTIC

Wait, our tax money is funding plastic production? According to a report from the Environmental Integrity Project, petrochemical companies like Shell and Exxon Mobil have received billions in tax breaks for larger and more polluting factories.

FOLLOW THE MONEY

Conservatives are making a case to keep the Inflation Reduction Act after years of intense opposition. What benefits could be changing their minds?

WON’T PIPE DOWN

In protest of the major Mountain Valley Pipeline, a 22 year old activist spent 36 hours inside of the pipeline in Virginia last week. See how they pulled it off.

SMOKEY THE BEAR WANTS YOU!

You can start applying to the American Climate Corps next month. This long-awaited job board, promised early in the Biden administration, will offer the newest green jobs on the market by April.

GREENHUSHING

If a green pledge is created and no one is around to hear it, does it still make a sound? Find out why some companies are staying silent on their work toward sustainability.

CLIMATE CLOSURES

South Sudan is closing all schools this week to protect children from a heat wave that’s set to send the country into temperatures of up to 113 degrees Fahrenheit.
