Inside the movement
The weekly action toolkit for the climate movement.

EARTH DAY COMES IN HOT

Hello! You care about the planet, right? So do we. It's why we created this new tool to bring you closer to the action. It doesn’t matter if you’re an activist, a news junkie or brand new to climate action.

EVERYTHING HERE IS ACTIONABLE and every action is a step to a healthier, cleaner, more equitable planet. WE TRIED TO GIVE YOU A LOT OF OPTIONS. We'll be back every week with new actions, events, leaders and climate content.

THIS WEEK: Earth Day events are coming in hot, businesses are urging Biden to fight climate more urgently, and we have a way to put Bolsonaro in the crosshairs. And while you’re taking action for the planet, remember that climate justice IS racial justice. SUPPORT DAUNTE WRIGHT'S FAMILY HERE.

Our house is on fire. But there are things YOU CAN DO — and they don't have to take much time. Each week, we bring you the top campaigns, actions and events — with links to everything to make taking action as easy as possible.

In 1982, the artist Agnes Denes planted a wheat field in downtown Manhattan as a protest against wealth inequality, food mismanagement and climate change.

Entitled "Support," this 9-meter tall installation by @lorenzoquinnartist located in a Venetian canal warns of the dangers of climate change — i.e. Venice engulfed by rising seas.

Climate science can be overwhelming. Here’s your easy-to-share highlight reel.
OCEAN OPERATIONS

You may think you know how our oceans function. Think again. This amazing graphic series will blow your mind.

WELL, THAT'S NOT GOOD

There are over 100,000 abandoned oil and gas wells littering the Permian Basin. The clean up in Texas alone could cost up to $117 billion.

SUNBLOCK

Blocking out the sun sounds more like an idea from a James Bond villain than a climate plan. See how this ill-conceived experiment almost became a reality.

MAN-MADE METHANE

You may think that methane only comes from gas wells and gassy cows. But half of all global methane emissions come from bodies of water … and much of it is human-made.

NOAA’S ARK?

Think the weather has been crazy? NOAA says get used to it. In just 30 years average temperatures are half a degree higher than they used to be and they show no signs of going down.

23 AND ALGAE

23-year-old Adán Ramirez Sánchez, a Mexican biotechnician, developed solar panels that use algae to absorb carbon and convert it into electricity and oxygen.

Here’s what it looks like when people show up, voices ring loud and leaders act for the sake of the planet.
CAPITALISTS CARE ABOUT CLIMATE

What do McDonald’s, Target and Google have in common? They all just signed a letter, along with 300 other businesses, urging Biden to cut greenhouse gases to 50% by the end of the decade.

BIG OIL RUNS DRY

68 is the number of ad agencies that, to date, have pledged to stop working for the fossil fuel industry. 155 is the number of creatives who have pledged too. Why? Because activists worked to make it all happen!

A NEW NEW ZEALAND

New Zealand is the first country to pass a law that requires banks, insurers, and investment managers to report the impact that their investments are having on climate change.

BONJOUR TO BETTER INSULATION

Heating and cooling homes is energy intensive, but the city of Paris found a way to fix that. Hempcrete is an efficient way to insulate your home and sequester carbon.

NEW YORK STATE DIVESTS!

New York’s retirement funds are now tar-sands free! We’re talking a lot of money. NY has a state pension of $246 billion.

AU REVOIR TO UNNECESSARY FLIGHTS

Choo choo! All aboard! To cut plane pollution, France just passed a bill banning flights short enough to take 2.5 hours or less by rail.

IN BED WITH BOLSONARO
The U.S. is negotiating a multi-billion dollar deal with Brazil that could help climate criminal Jair Bolsonaro get re-elected and rewarded for illegal forest clearance in the Amazon.
ALL (HEAT) PUMPED UP
Heat pumps may not pump up your imagination, but they could be one of the most practical climate solutions. Biden’s new climate plan wants to get them in our homes ASAP.
A NON FUNGIBLE PLANET
A new trend in the art world is having long lasting impacts on the planet. NFTs may sell for millions, but is the massive carbon footprint worth it?
THE PROBLEM WITH PARKS
The national parks have been termed “America’s Best Idea”. But indigenous peoples lived in these areas for thousands of years prior. It’s time to give it back.
MOTHERS’ EARTH
Moms care, not just about their kids, but also about their planet. These moms are fighting climate the same way they handle parenting: with urgency.

Each week we highlight a few climate groups doing awe-inspiring, planet-saving work. Join them, help them, even toss them a few bucks. They’ll appreciate anything you can do.

Green New Deal Network brings together grassroots organizations all around the U.S. to focus on climate and social justice. Its current mission: getting Joe Biden and Congress to pass the THRIVE Agenda.

Extinction Rebellion, known for its city-stopping public protests, focuses on solving the climate crisis by pressuring governments to listen to the science and declare a climate emergency.

EARTHDAY.ORG’s mission is to diversify, educate and activate the environmental movement worldwide. Growing out of the first Earth Day in 1970, the group works with more than 75,000 partners in over 190 countries to drive positive action for our planet.
