Inside the movement
The weekly action toolkit for the climate movement.

HOT FOR HAALAND

Join the Global Day of Action … keep up the pressure on Line 3 … and vibrate to save the planet!

Welcome to INSIDE THE MOVEMENT, a new way to get informed and take action. Here you will find the climate movement all in one place. This week we encourage you to join millions of others in today’s Global Day of Action; continue the fight to stop the Line 3 pipeline; and do what you can to save trees, because more trees means less disease.

But we won’t ignore the rise of anti-Asian hate crimes over the past year. The climate movement must actively work to fight white supremacy and recognize the harm that racist policies and rhetoric have caused over time.

Our house is on fire. But there are things YOU CAN DO — and they don't have to take much time. Each week, we bring you the top campaigns, actions and events — with links to everything to make taking action as easy as possible.

FIND YOUR PLACE in the climate movement!

OPERATION ELECTRIFY USPS

The U.S. Postal Service is electrifying its fleet, but there’s a catch: it’s only doing 10% of its vehicles. But if we get enough signatures, USPS will be forced to electrify 100% of its fleet! SIGN THE PETITION HERE and then share on social media.

HELP KELP!

Kelp protects ecosystems and helps [kelps?] keep the Earth cool! SIGN THIS PETITION to legalize kelp farming in NY.

SPRING IS COMING

The ground is thawing in Minnesota, and that means construction on Line 3, one of the world's most dangerous oil pipelines, is going to accelerate. JOIN THE RALLY to #DefundLine3 while there’s still time.

STOP BYHALIA

Keep building momentum! SIGN THE PETITION to stop construction of the Byhalia Connection Pipeline, which would cross through a largely Black neighborhood in Memphis, TN already bearing the brunt of environmental injustice.

This week hear from top climate journalist and writer of Volts, David Roberts, who knows all about the barriers to tackling climate change, from the filibuster to the fossil fuel companies dragging their feet. But he also knows there’s a way forward. Here's what he told us.

POLARIZED POLITICS. BRRR! Republicans and Democrats once appeared to agree about climate change. What happened?

DESTROYING HUMAN HISTORY?: The climate crisis isn't just threatening our future, it's erasing our history. These 6 treasured landmarks of human civilization could be lost forever, and it's already starting to happen.

WE ARE SUNRISE: Why is the Sunrise Movement able to do such great climate work? Maybe it’s because its members are so passionate.

CRYPTO CARBON
It’s hard to believe that an internet-based currency with no central bank could have a carbon footprint at all. Guess again.
SPIN CYCLE: GREEN
Edelman, one of the largest PR firms in the world, has pledged to “work with an environmental conscience.” The last time we checked, taking millions from a fossil fuel company doesn’t exactly uphold that promise.
RACISM, REDLINING & FLOODING
Decades of racist redlining didn’t just steal generational wealth from black communities. It’s now threatening those same communities with higher flood risk.
SHADES OF GREENWASHING
Energy utilities, plastics manufacturers, natural gas providers, and fake meat wunderkinds are all making great green pledges, but how real are they? This podcast is a must-listen.

Climate science can be overwhelming. Here’s your easy-to-share highlight reel.
LESS TREES, MORE DISEASE

Think COVID is bad? As more forest is cleared around the world, scientists fear more deadly viruses will be released. That means more pandemics could be around the corner.

LET IT BE

What if developing land actually costs us more than leaving it alone? Well, now we have the data. And it shows that converting land for things like logging and agriculture is a loser in the long run.

A LESS AMAZIN’ AMAZON

The Amazon has always been a silent hero for drawing down carbon emissions. But new studies are showing that the destruction may have pushed its ability to the brink: the rainforest may now be contributing to climate change.

EARTH USED TO BE COOL

The last 12,000 years were much cooler than previously thought, according to research published in Nature. That means human-caused warming of the planet is far worse than we thought it was.

GET OTTER HERE!

Sea otters aren’t just cute. All along the California coast, sea otters are keeping essential kelp forests healthy, which helps cool the planet.

Here’s what it looks like when people show up, voices ring loud and leaders act for the sake of the planet.
CONFIRMED!

Secretary of the Interior, Deb Haaland, will go down in history as the first Indigenous cabinet member, providing a much needed perspective in the battle against climate change. This marks a turning point for the U.S. government’s treatment of Indigenous communities.

SKYBRATORS

A new kind of wind turbine is here. It generates electricity from vibration! Watch the video of it doing its thing. Good vibes, literally!

GREEN JEANS

Jeans are one of the most environmentally harmful pieces of clothing to make, using massive amounts of water and energy. But a company called Jeanologia has the solution.

THE WHOLE PACKAGE

Biden's $1.9 trillion stimulus package wasn't all about COVID. It notably included $100 million to address air pollution and environmental racism in minority and low-income communities.

Each week we highlight a few climate groups doing awe-inspiring, planet-saving work. Join them, help them, even toss them a few bucks. They’ll appreciate anything you can do.

Zero Foodprint partners with restaurants to promote sustainable farming practices. The organization works with many restaurants throughout the world, to donate 1% of their profits for resources that help farmers adopt carbon farming practices.

Sign the statement to show your support for Land Needs Guardians, an organization working to empower Indigenous communities in Canada, which includes addressing wildfires and other natural disasters from climate change.
