Climate science can be overwhelming. Here’s your easy-to-share highlight reel.
PUMPED ABOUT HEAT PUMPS

A hotter world will mean an increased need to keep people cool. That means heat pumps will be more essential than ever. Read how.

HURRICANE + CLIMATE CHANGE

In the wake of Hurricane Ida, we’re learning how complex hurricanes really are. They’re made up of wind, rain and storm intensity, and each of these factors is affected differently by rising global temperatures.

HALF SOAKED, HALF PARCHED

Climate change means drought in some places and deluges in others. This map of America’s rainfall tells the stories of two different worlds.

UNPROTECTED YOUTH

Children are disproportionately vulnerable to the impacts of the climate crisis. In fact, a new UNICEF report found that nearly half the world’s 2.2 billion kids are at “extremely high risk.”

CLIMATE CHANGE MAKES US MEANIES

Extreme heat isn't just a physical risk, it's a behavior risk as well. And those without the means to cool themselves suffer disproportionately.

UNWELL AIR

New research suggests that air pollution is bad for our mental health. Read more here.

The climate crisis in pictures. Our lens is global.

Despite the intensity of the flames, the resort’s snow guns and firefighters working through the night appear to have saved the ski lifts and structures.

Ida dropped more than 7" of rain in Central Park, the 5th highest amount on record. It came just days after heavy rains from Tropical Storm Henri broke a citywide record — a historic one-two punch that officials say is a direct result of a warming planet.

Indigenous communities were hit hard by the hurricane, yet some Native organizers say they’ve received little attention even as they struggle with Ida’s damage.

Extinction Rebellion protesters poured red paint over the entrances of City institutions as they marched in a protest against the “blood money” on which they say the UK economy is built.

EATING OUR WAY TO EXTINCTION — The way we produce and consume food is destroying the planet, but no one wants to talk about it. Kate Winslet explains why that needs to change in this powerful new documentary. (EOW2E)

LINE 3 IS NOT NEEDED — The mainstream media finally gets on board with a great story about the Line 3 pipeline, featuring climate hera Tara Houska. (CBS News)

ZERO HOUR SAYS TIME'S UP — Activists with Zero Hour show why the budget reconciliation bill is essential in the fight against climate change. (Zero Hour)

SOS (SAVE OUR SOIL) — More than 300 million farmers worldwide are using a destructive farming technique that depletes the soil. This remarkable tree provides a sustainable solution that could save it. (Inga Foundation)

Here’s what it looks like when people show up, voices ring loud and leaders act for the sake of the planet.
OLD SCHOOL WAS COOL

Ancient Egypt and the Persian Empire knew how to keep people cool in the desert. Maybe it’s time to use that same ancient tech to cool our warming world?

CLIMATE OFFICE

The Biden Administration just announced the Office of Climate Change and Health Equity. It will be the first federal program to focus on how the climate crisis is affecting human health, especially in poor communities.

CLEAN WATER RULES

Trump's infamous "Dirty Water Rule" made it easier for polluters to poison our waterways, not just our air. A judge just stopped it, and now clean water has a fighting chance.

STORAGE BILLIONS

Stopping climate change is far cheaper than adapting to it, and there's even money to be made. Over the next 30 years, energy storage alone is projected to bring $277 billion into the stock market.

NORDIC + TROPICS

Two countries on different sides of the world are partnering to speed up the phase out of fossil fuels. Read about this necessary alliance.

INDIGENOUS SOVEREIGNTY

On the island of Moloka’i, Native Hawaiians are forming cooperatives to provide locally owned, affordable, renewable energy. Indigenous communities across the country want to do the same.

LOBBYING BLITZ
Opponents of the Democrat’s $3.5 trillion economic plan are launching a massive lobbying effort to dismantle key infrastructure — and climate — parts of the bill.
FAKE IT ‘TIL YOU BREAK IT
Fossil fuel companies are doing the bare minimum on climate action. But they’re doing a great job of making it seem like they’re making significant progress.
BIG GREEN JOBS
More than 120 labor unions in Texas just passed a Green Jobs Plan with overwhelming support. It argues for a just transition, and that speaks volumes from the biggest energy-producing state in the nation.
FOSSIL FUELS’ BLAME GAME
As climate change becomes undeniable, a new strategy has emerged to discredit those working to raise awareness, it’s called carbon shaming.
PIPELINE EXPLOSION
A CO2 pipeline explosion in Satartia, Mississippi left 46 people in the hospital and forced the entire town to evacuate. This is just a glimpse of how inadequate pipeline regulations can poison communities.
COACHELLA INJUSTICE
The eastern Coachella Valley is predicted to be one of the communities hit hardest by climate change in California. It also means the valley will be plagued by climate injustice.
SHOW ME THE MONEY
One majorly overlooked thing we need to address the climate crisis is more funding for solutions. The world needs to triple its current investments in a transition to clean energy. How do we get there?

Every week we highlight three climate campaigns having real impact. There are many more than 3, see many of them here.

Another Gulf Is Possible is a women-of-color-led, grassroots collaborative from Texas to Florida. Its core areas of work are cultural organizing, arts-based healing, direct action, advocacy, transformative justice, education, and locally-led capacity-building.

Climate Psychology Alliance aims to facilitate a deeper understanding of our human responses to climate change. It develops and publishes research, provides therapeutic support networks, workshops, as well as a handbook on climate psychology.
